Programs & Events

Throughout the year, New Detroit holds multiple programs and events aimed to address race relations issues in Southeast Michigan. These range from youth-serving programs such as our summer youth business camp called Camp Enterprise to the community-wide Concert of Colors to our Multicultural Leadership Series for leaders in organizations and businesses to better understand communities of color represented in our region.

2017 Closing the Gap Awards Dinner

New Detroit Celebrates 50th Anniversary

Detroit – New Detroit, Inc. is celebrating its 50th anniversary by embarking on a new racial healing project that combines genealogy research and DNA testing with historical analysis and storytelling to shine light and understanding on the issue of race in America.

The Minority Small Business Education Series

The Minority Small Business Education Series is a practical overview of essential business topics created for minority and non-minority small businesses operating in recognized Metropolitan Detroit “low to moderate income” neighborhoods.The Series, when offered, is open to all types of businesses that have revenues of $1MM or less annually and have been in operation for not more than 5 years. Camp Enterprise

Camp Enterprise is a business camp that introduces young people to the skills required to become entrepreneurs. More importantly, Camp Enterprise provides a space where young people feel safe, valued, and accomplished while making connections with peers and mentors who have achieved a certain measure of success in the business world. Multicultural Leadership Series

The Multicultural Leadership Series highlights the histories, cultures and socioeconomic issues of communities of color represented in Southeast Michigan -- African/African American, Arab American, Chaldean, Asian, Hispanic/Latino and Native American. Participants are required to attend a day-long orientation, plus six 8-hour cultural sessions hosted by our partner agencies that reflect these communities, culminating in a graduation ceremony for completion of the program.
