Minority Business Banking Seminar

New Detroit recently sponsored a Seminar entitled "Maximizing Small Business Banking Relationships", targeting minority business owners.

The seminar curriculum focused on three areas.

  • Better understanding of the business through analysis of financial statements and tax returns
  • Utilizing financial statements as effective analysis and planning tools
  • Having more effective conversations with financial institutions
New Detroit Announces 2012 Closing The Gap Honorees

New Detroit has announced its Closing the Gap honorees for 2012. Our organization celebrates individuals,organizations and corporations whose actions have made a positive difference in race relations in metro Detroit.

The following awards will be presented at the event, to be held Tuesday, June 19 at 5:30 p.m. at the MGM Grand Detroit Hotel Ballroom, 1777 3rd Street in Detroit.

  • Individual Award:Curtis L. Ivery, Ph.D. is Chancellor of Wayne County Community College District (WCCCD)
  • Community Organization Award:InsideOut Literary Arts Project
  • Corporate Award:Bridgewater Interiors, LLC

“Each year New Detroit selects ‘Closing the Gap’ award honorees to recognize an individual, an organization and a corporation who have established a track record of working successfully to improve race relations in our region,” said Shirley R. Stancato, New Detroit President and CEO. “Each of this year’s honorees has played a unique role toward that goal with years of effort and has demonstrated through their individual achievements what true commitment to change can achieve.”

ew Detroit’s 14th annual "Closing the Gap" awards dinner celebrates individuals and organizations whose actions have made a positive difference in race relations in the greater Detroit region. This year William Emerson, Chief Executive Officer of Quicken Loans, was selected as the dinner chairman. He and his committee are eagerly looking forward to recognizing an individual, community organization and corporate awards recipients for their unwillingness to accept the status quo in race relations.

Immigration Basics-101

New Detroit Incorporated, the Michigan Immigrant Rights Center and the Mexican Consulate are offering two half-day sessions on the immigration law and immigrant rights.

The goal of these sessions is twofold: to provide information about the legal system and share effective strategies to protect and preserve the family unit. Susan E. Reed, Supervising Attorney at the Michigan Immigrant Rights Center will be our lead trainer.
