Excellent Schools Detroit Releases 2010 School Report Card

N

ew Detroit has been an active participant in the Excellent Schools Detroit coalition. This coalition is a broad and diverse cross section of Detroit’s education, government, community, parent, and philanthropic leaders who have developed a Citywide Education Plan to help ensure that all Detroit children receive the great education they deserve. The Citywide Education Plan is designed to help all Detroit children, whether they attend a traditional public school, public charter school, or independent school.

UPDATE: Excellent Schools Detroit has released its 2010 School Report Card. This report card ranks all public, public charter, and private schools in Detroit from best to worst. Ranking is based on elementary and middle school MEAP test scores and high school ACT scores and graduation rates. The report card is part of the strategy to help Detroit parents become more informed “school shoppers.”

n today's economic environment, we see a number of organizations providing resources for entrepreneurialism, but there appears to be a gap when it comes to assisting in the growth and sustainability of existing small businesses owned by people of color.

New Detroit is conducting a survey of small businesses to ascertain what their needs are. New Detroit will compile the data and publish a report on the State of Minority Business in Metropolitan Detroit. The data will also be used to create capacity building programs to be delivered by New Detroit. Stay tuned for the survey findings and the report.
