New Detroit’s Multicultural Leadership Series offers a highly innovative approach to building cultural competency. Our goal is to develop a greater understanding of the distinctive and subtle differences between racial and ethnic groups and to provide the tools to enhance communication.

Objectives

  • To identify and build a strong and ongoing network of leaders in the Metropolitan Detroit area who will facilitate cross-cultural collaborations for closing the racial, ethnic, and cultural divide.
  • To develop skills for facilitating ongoing dialogue, cross-cultural collaboration and advocacy among Metropolitan Detroit’s racial, ethnic, and cultural groups.
  • To bridge communication gaps, promote better understanding, communication and appreciation among people.

Overview

This experience highlights the history, culture and socioeconomics of the following communities of color: African American, Arab Americans, Asian Americans, Chaldean Americans, Latino Americans and Native American. Participants attend a daylong orientation plus six 8 hour sessions.

Tuition cost for the 2019 – 2020 Multicultural Leadership Series is $2,000.00.

  • Based on the nature of our work as a race relations organization we ask individuals to self - identify by providing us with the following information in regards to race/ethnicity.

  • Candidates are asked to make the following commitments if accepted into the program. To successfully complete the Multicultural Leadership Series, each participant must meet the following requirements:

    • Submit your completed application now.
    • After the candidate is notified of acceptance, payment must be submitted. Tuition amount: $2,000.00.
    • Attend the one full-day orientation session the remaining six sessions and the recognition ceremony.
    • Serve as a liaison for your community, in conjunction with other participants of the program.
    • Have support from employer for participation in the program.
  • I understand the purpose and commitment requirements of the Multicultural Leadership Series. If selected, I will devote the necessary time and participate fully.
